September already?! Wow!

I took this photo of some really interesting exposed tree roots a couple weeks ago on one of the beaches on the St.Croix river. I then applied some magic in photoshop to enhance the tree bark for this month's wallpaper/calendar.

bigcartel shop opening soon!

Hey peeps! I am getting so close to having my online shop ready to launch I can hardly stand it! It is truly amazing that artists are able to offer art for sale worldwide, affordably, via the internet!  I told a bunch of folks that picked up my business card at an outdoor show in June that the shop would be open in August. God willing and the creek don't rise, I should squeek it in by August 31st! Here is a sneak peek at the "home" page. I am still contemplating the grey background color, and I need to take some more product shots in my cool collapsible tabletop photo booth (made by yours truly out of foam core with instructions from here). Stay tuned for the big grand opening announcement!

Illustration Contest

Here’s something I am really excited about. I recently entered a fabulous contest hosted by Lilla Rogers Studio, an illustration agency representing artists internationally since 1984. The once-in-a-lifetime prize includes two years of representation! The entries will be narrowed down to 50 on August 1st, at which time those 50 will then be given the second assignment in the contest. You will definitely be alerted if I make the first cut! Below is my entry for the first assignment, which asked us to depict old-time playground equipment and the word "journal" any way we liked, as long as it was in our style. Let me know what you think!

Outdoor Art Fair

WOW! Summer is flying by! So much has happened since my last post. I participated in my first outdoor art fair over Father's Day weekend. We were under a big circus-like tent, with clear plastic curtains all around the sides on a nice humid midwestern summer day. Those things had to go! As you can see by the picture, I was trying to let some light in by gathering the black fabric curtains that were hung on the other side of the plastic. Thus the terrible lighting on the first two shots, but you get the idea. BTW much of what you see will be available online in my BigCartel shop when I get it up and running in August. Stay tuned!

Still waiting for summer-like temperatures, although last Sunday's bonfire party was a smashing success - no mosquitos, not hot, not too cold. That's the best of all worlds in Minnesota. Happy June!!!

Spring is finally HERE!!!!

Mother Nature was a huge disappointment in the upper midwest. I even wondered if the temp would be above 50 by the time my birthday rolled around in July HA! Well, today is a glorious day! Over 60, sunny, and I even saw a butterfly!
These lovelies are,happy and so am I!
